Evans Records Double-Double in Griffins Win

Box Score EL CAJON, Calif. – Five players scored double figures and No. 16 Westminster dropped 55 points in the first half to cruise by San Diego Christian 92-74 on Friday night. Westminster shot 51.5 percent from the field and made nine 3-pointers in the win. The 16th-ranked Griffins improve to 9-1 on the season and are 5-0 in games away from the Behnken Field House. San Diego Christian falls to 1-2 with the loss.

Westminster opened the game on a 14-4 run over the first four minutes. Alexis Tucker scored six of her 14 total points during that opening run. San Diego Christian cut the lead to 38-35 with 4:30 to play before Westminster finished the opening half on a 17-3 run and taking a 55-38 lead into the intermission.

Shannon Evans led Westminster with 16 points and 10 assists, her third career double-double and second this season. Michelle Pace scored 13 points and pulled down a team high seven rebounds. Westminster held a slim 34-33 advantage in rebounds and grabbed 12 offensive boards, turning them into 14 second chance points. The Griffins also forced San Diego Christian into 26 turnovers which resulted in 36 Westminster points. Elisa Leader also scored 13 for Westminster.

The Griffins held a 29-19 advantage in bench scoring, led by 13 from Dani Evans. Evans went 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and had two steals. Mara Hoskins scored eight bench points to go with her three steals.

Dorchella James led San Diego Christian with 23 points and five assists. Lara Hertzog had 17 and Allison Mercer chipped in 10 for the Hawks. As a team, San Diego Christian shot 47.2 percent from the field and scored 40 points in the paint.

Saturday Westminster will face No.11 point Loma Nazarene. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since Westminster's 53-39 win in the opening round of the 2007 NAIA National Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. local time in Golden Gymnasium.
