Mason Hanson is from West Bountiful, Utah, and attended Viewmont High School, where he was named to the ECNL National Training Camp Best XI in 2022, earned ECNL Mountain All-Conference First Team honors twice (2021–2023), was named United Soccer Coaches Utah Boys High School Soccer Player of the Year in 2023, and earned 5A All-State Honorable Mention, 5A Academic All-State, and 5A Region 5 First Team All-Region honors in 2023.

He is majoring in International Business. Hanson chose Westminster for its highly regarded men's soccer program and its student-to-professor ratio, which he felt offered an education he could not obtain elsewhere in Utah.

His goal after college is to attend law school and open his own international law firm.
