ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS:
- I started attending Westminster College as a Freshman and came all the way out here from Alaska. So making new friends right away was crucial, and the snowboard team helped me do just that. We had team meetings during the Fall, and then started off-hill training right away. The Snowboard Team has helped me form lifelong friendships, which I will cherish forever. Training at Park City during the Winter and traveling from Maine to Idaho, as well as a few other places are some of my fondest memories. Westminster also has outstanding academics with small class sizes and amazing professors. I was not sure what to expect going into college, especially being from out-of-state, but I would not go back and change my choice in colleges. – Desi Diselrod, Four-year National Podium All-around Champion. and class of 2010.
- Westminster College, to me, was far more than a place I could earn a degree. Following High School graduation I knew that I wanted to pursue a post-secondary education but had a hard time finding the right fit. As an aspiring professional snowboarder, I wasn’t willing to go to a school without some kind of snowboarding program. In all reality, I was far more interested in snowboarding than I was in earning a degree… The opportunity to pursue a degree in marketing while chasing my dream to become a professional snowboarder is the only reason I can say that I have achieved both. Simply having the snow board team at Westminster is the reason for a great amount of the success I have in my life right now, and will continue to find in years to come. Not only have I worked in the marketing field for multiple corporations, I have been able to use the knowledge I got from my degree in my endeavors as a professional snowboarder for Burton Snowboards. As you might imagine, understanding your role as a marketing agent for snowboard brands is an extremely important skill to possess. While it meant so much to me that the snowboard team at Westminster existed, it was also the best part of my college experience. Spending each spring break with my team traveling to our national competitions was incredible. Each year I made long lasting relationships with my teammates, coaches and competitors from all over the United States. Nearly all of which I still keep in contact with and even snowboard with. Being a part of the team gave me a community within Westminster that provided the comfort needed to set my mind at ease during tough times. Winning 6 national titles, playing mission impossible to get our van unstuck and countless laughs/stories from along the way made being a part of the Westminster Snowboard Team something I’ll be proud of the rest of my life.” –Rob Roethler class of 2022.
