LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Westminster (2-0-2, 0-0-2 RMAC) and Colorado Christian (1-3-4, 0-1-1 RMAC) played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday at Trailblazer Stadium, with the Cougars finishing with a 14-6 shot advantage despite Westminster controlling 53% of possession.
Game Breakdown
First Half
Colorado Christian came out aggressive, testing Marin Mackenzie early when Kayla Truong's shot was saved in the 3rd minute, followed by back-to-back corner kicks for the Cougars. Alexis Byrd sent a shot high in the 13th minute before Westminster answered, as Chelsea Hartmann drew a save from Kenzie Kunitz in the 16th minute. Truong continued to test the Griffins' defense, having a shot blocked in the 21st minute and another go high in the 24th. Westminster's best look of the half came from Mia Barron, whose shot sailed high in the 32nd minute, and Callie Hanson went wide left in the 40th. The teams went into the break scoreless, with Colorado Christian holding a narrow 4-3 shot edge.
Second Half
The Cougars ramped up their pressure after halftime, out-shooting Westminster 10-3 in the final 45 minutes. Byrd went high in the 49th minute, and Sophia Tagge fired wide right in the 58th before Jordyn Rollins had a shot blocked in the 59th. Westminster generated its own chances through Natalie Cardin, who drew a save from Kunitz in the 62nd minute. Mackenzie kept the Griffins level with a pair of key saves, denying Faith Gaudy in the 65th minute and Tagge in the 79th. Cardin continued to press for Westminster, sending a shot high in the 75th minute before drawing another save from Kunitz in the 82nd. Colorado Christian pushed hard in the closing minutes, with Byrd going wide left in the 83rd and high again in the 88th, while Truong had a shot go high in the 85th and blocked in the 87th. Neither side could find a breakthrough, and the match ended level at 0-0.
Marin Mackenzie and Kenzie Kunitz each played all 90 minutes and finished with three saves apiece to preserve the shutout for both sides.
Griffin Performances
Natalie Cardin led Westminster with three shots in 76 minutes of action. Chelsea Hartmann added a shot on target in 67 minutes. Marin Mackenzie earned the tie in net, making three saves across the full match to record her fourth clean sheet of the season.
