Game Breakdown
First Half
Westminster came out firing, with Xevani Salanoa and Chelsea Hartmann both missing wide right within the first two minutes. The Griffins continued to create chances throughout the half, as Hartmann forced a save from goalkeeper Morgan Shirley in the 13th minute. Skye Kennedy was the most active Griffin in front of goal, drawing back-to-back saves from Shirley in the 16th and 18th minutes before having a shot blocked in the 25th. Hartmann and Abigail Austin each had late first-half looks go off target, but Westminster could not find the breakthrough. The Griffins dominated the opening 45 minutes, outshooting MSU Denver 8-0 and winning the corner kick battle 2-0, but went into the break in a scoreless deadlock.
Second Half
MSU Denver settled in defensively after halftime, limiting Westminster's chances as both teams traded possession in the midfield. Laine Romney had the Griffins' best look of the half, firing wide right in the 58th minute. The Roadrunners began to find some rhythm late, as Madeline Everett's shot went wide left in the 75th minute for MSU Denver's first attempt of the match. Adrianna Pulver sent a shot high for Westminster in the 81st minute, and Addison Osilka had two late chances go wide for the Roadrunners in the 89th and 90th minutes, but neither side could break through. The match ended level at 0-0, with Westminster maintaining the shot edge 2-3 in the second half despite MSU Denver's late push.
Marin Mackenzie and Morgan Shirley each played the full 90 minutes in goal without conceding, with Shirley making two saves and MSU Denver adding a team save to finish with three total.
Griffin Performances
Skye Kennedy and Chelsea Hartmann tied for the team lead with three shots apiece, with Kennedy putting two on target. Marin Mackenzie earned the tie in net, keeping her third clean sheet of the season across 90 minutes.
