Westminster dropped to 3-3 on the season Saturday, falling to Maryville 15-12 at Maryville A.C. in St. Louis, Mo. The Griffins were unable to overcome an early deficit and a dominant third quarter from the Saints, despite a late rally to close the gap.
Game Breakdown
First Quarter
Maryville came out strong, jumping to a 3-0 lead on goals from Ben Mickett at 14:02, Colin Tobias at 13:13, and Reid Usrey at 12:24. Westminster responded with back-to-back goals from Ridge Crouch — unassisted at 11:24 and assisted by Cam Conti at 9:51 — to cut the deficit to 3-2. Maryville then scored twice in quick succession through Eli Wingbermuehle at 2:18 and Shea Raeburn at 2:12 to push the lead to 5-2. Theo Le closed the quarter with a man-up goal assisted by Duke DeVault at 0:15 to send Westminster into the second trailing 5-3.
Second Quarter
Maryville extended its lead to 7-3 on goals from Caiden Moon at 14:09 and Flint Thielen at 4:48 before Westminster mounted a response. Daxton Jensen scored back-to-back unassisted goals at 3:08 and 2:22, and Theo Le added another at 1:05 assisted by Boden Laforce to pull Westminster within one at 7-6. Maryville's Reid Usrey closed the half at 0:14 to send the teams into halftime with Maryville leading 8-6.
Third Quarter
Maryville dominated the third quarter, outscoring Westminster 7-4 to push the lead to 15-10. Westminster answers came from Camden Stanley at 12:12, Daxton Jensen at 8:09 assisted by Theo Le, Theo Le at 4:33 assisted by Xavier Monteiro, and Jensen again at 0:32. Maryville's scoring in the quarter came from Colin Tobias, Zach Johnson, Shea Raeburn, Jack Tocko (man-up), Jack Tocko (man-up again), Colin Tobias, and Brenden Bloedel to close the quarter at 15-10.
Fourth Quarter
Westminster outscored Maryville 2-0 in the fourth but couldn't complete the comeback. Daxton Jensen scored at 12:22 to make it 11-15, and Tate Craig added a goal at 7:57 assisted by Theo Le to close it to 12-15, but Maryville held on for the 15-12 victory.
