SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's basketball team dropped an 81–71 RMAC decision to Colorado Christian on Thursday night at Behnken Field House.
The Griffins stayed within reach throughout a tightly contested game that featured nine ties and 13 lead changes, but Colorado Christian used a strong third quarter to create separation.
Game Breakdown
First Half
Colorado Christian led 21–17 after the opening quarter before Westminster responded with its best stretch of the night in the second, outscoring the Cougars 22–15 to take a 39–36 advantage into halftime.
Second Half
The Cougars regained momentum in the third quarter, scoring 30 points to take a 66–59 lead entering the fourth. Westminster continued to compete in the final period but was outscored 15–12 as Colorado Christian closed out the 81–71 win.
Griffin Performances
Ellie Mitchell led Westminster with 20 points, shooting 7–17 from the field and 4–5 at the free-throw line while adding 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Teuila Nawahine finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals, while Madison Anderson posted 11 points, a team-high 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
Klowie Pike added 10 points off the bench, and Alisi Peaua contributed 8 points on 2–2 shooting with 4–4 at the free-throw line. Nisa Ellis chipped in 6 points and 6 rebounds, while Emily Evans added 2 points and 4 assists.
Westminster shot 41.0% (25–61) from the field and 23.5% (4–17) from three while finishing 17–26 (65.4%) at the free-throw line. The Griffins totaled 39 rebounds, scored 40 points in the paint, and recorded 18 bench points.
