SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's basketball team used a dominant third quarter to pull away Saturday afternoon, defeating South Dakota Mines 77–61 at Behnken Field House in RMAC play.
The Griffins broke open a close game after halftime, scoring 34 points in the third quarter to take control and secure their second straight home conference win.
Game Breakdown
First Half
Westminster held a slim advantage after the opening quarter, leading 13–10, and extended the margin slightly in the second to carry a 28–24 lead into halftime.
Second Half
The Griffins erupted in the third quarter, shooting 76.9% (10–13) from the field and outscoring South Dakota Mines 34–21 to take a 62–45 lead entering the fourth. Westminster maintained control in the final period, closing out the 77–61 victory.
Griffin Performances
Madison Anderson led all scorers with a career-high 31 points on 10–18 shooting, adding 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks. Ellie Mitchell followed with 24 points, shooting 9–16 from the field and 4–9 from three while playing 39 minutes.
Klowie Pike added 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, while Teuila Nawahine contributed 6 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Nisa Ellis chipped in 6 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.
Westminster shot 42.9% (27–63) from the field and 31.3% (5–16) from three, while finishing 18–23 (78.3%) at the free-throw line. The Griffins won the rebounding battle 41–31, scored 40 points in the paint, and held South Dakota Mines to 41.1% shooting.
