SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's basketball team mounted a strong fourth-quarter comeback Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 62–60 loss to Western Colorado at Behnken Field House.
The Griffins outscored the Mountaineers 27–15 in the final quarter and erased a double-digit deficit, but Western Colorado connected on a go-ahead basket in the final seconds to seal the road win.
Game Breakdown
First Half
Western Colorado opened the game with a 21–12 first quarter before extending its lead in the second, outscoring Westminster 12–10 to take a 33–22 advantage into halftime.
Second Half
The Mountaineers maintained control through the third quarter, holding a 47–33 lead entering the final period. Westminster responded with its best offensive stretch of the game in the fourth, scoring 27 points and briefly taking a 60–59 lead with just over a minute remaining, but Western Colorado answered late to secure the 62–60 victory.
Griffin Performances
Teuila Nawahine led Westminster with 14 points on 6–12 shooting while adding 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Nisa Ellis provided a spark off the bench with 15 points and 6 rebounds, going 6–11 from the field and 3–5 at the free-throw line.
Klowie Pike added 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals, while Ellie Mitchell finished with 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Emily Evans contributed 7 points and 6 rebounds, and Madison Anderson pulled down 4 rebounds.
Westminster shot 36.4% (24–66) from the field and 15.8% (3–19) from three, while finishing 9–15 (60.0%) at the free-throw line. The Griffins totaled 36 rebounds, scored 30 points in the paint, and produced 23 bench points.
