Griffins Fall to Colorado Mesa in RMAC Road Test


GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Westminster men's basketball continued RMAC play Thursday night, falling 77–60 to Colorado Mesa at Brownson Arena.

The Mavericks built an early advantage behind efficient first-half shooting, and while Westminster showed improvement after the break, the Griffins were unable to fully close the gap.


Game Breakdown

First Half

Colorado Mesa jumped out to a strong start, taking a 39–23 lead at halftime. Westminster shot 30.30% (10–33) from the field in the opening period and 17.65% (3–17) from three, and did not reach the free throw line.

Second Half

Westminster responded with its best offensive stretch after the break, scoring 37 points and shooting 44.83% (13–29) from the floor. The Griffins also improved from beyond the arc, hitting 5–11 (45.45%) in the second half, but Mesa matched the push to maintain control.

Individual Performances

Colin Hayes led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 9–14 from the field and 3–4 at the free-throw line. Cole Kadoguchi added 11 points, knocking down 3–10 from three, while Jack Jamele contributed 9 points off the bench. Jonah El-Farra and Michael Fraizer each grabbed 5 rebounds to pace Westminster on the glass.

Team Numbers

Westminster finished the night shooting 37.1% (23–62) from the field and 28.6% (8–28) from three, while generating 17 points off turnovers and 13 fast-break points.


Big Picture

Thursday's matchup marked another RMAC road test for Westminster, as the Griffins moved to 6–9 overall and 1–6 in conference play. The Griffins will look to snap their six-game slide on Saturday at home when they face Western Colorado.
