Westminster Men’s Lacrosse Season Ends in Overtime at RMAC Semifinals

Grand Junction, Colo. – The Westminster Men's Lacrosse team saw its season come to a dramatic close in the RMAC Semifinals, falling to Concordia Irvine in a heartbreaking 13-12 overtime loss.

The Griffins came out firing in the first quarter, going on a 5-0 run after falling behind 3-1 early. Goals from Duke DeVault, Kade Oswin, Luke Sillstrop, and Ben Weber helped push Westminster to a 5-3 lead after one.

Westminster extended their lead to 6-3 and then 7-5 in the second quarter, thanks to goals from Jacob Mendez and Pierce Dahl, but Concordia continued to answer, keeping the game within reach heading into halftime.

The third quarter saw both teams trading punches. Dahl recorded his third goal of the game, while Daxton Jensen, Luke Sillstrop, and Camden Rossi each added scores to give Westminster an 11-9 lead heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Concordia stormed back with three straight goals to take a 12-11 lead. With just over a minute remaining, Cale Gunter scored off a feed from Xavier Monteiro to tie the game at 12-12 and send it to overtime.

But in the extra period, it was Concordia's Jeremy Barnes who netted the golden goal at the 3:53 mark, ending the Griffins' season in heartbreaking fashion.
