Grand Junction, CO – The Westminster Griffins women's lacrosse team faced the Mavericks Saturday morning, falling to Colorado Mesa 17-6 on the Mavericks' home field.
The Mavericks took control early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead before Westminster's Holly Shoughro found the net in the final seconds of the first quarter. The Griffins fought to keep pace, with Madi Rogers and Celia Fidanza adding goals in the second quarter, but Colorado Mesa maintained control, leading 10-3 at halftime.
Westminster's offense continued to battle in the second half, with Shaina Shoughro, Anabelle Kugler, and Jordan Williamson each scoring, but the Mavericks' relentless attack proved too much to overcome.
With the loss, the Griffins now turn their attention to their home opener.
Up Next: Westminster returns to Dumke Field on Friday, March 28, to host Fort Lewis College at 4:00 PM in their home opener, featuring a Youth Dedication Game for IMLAX.
