DENVER, CO – The Westminster Griffins Women's Lacrosse team faced a tough battle on Sunday afternoon, falling 18-6 to Regis University in an RMAC matchup. Despite a determined effort, the Griffins struggled to keep pace with a strong offensive showing from the home team.
Regis set the tone early, scoring six goals in the opening period while Westminster managed three of their own. Riley Weldon, Madi Rogers, and Grace Szwedko each found the net in the first quarter to keep the Griffins within striking distance.
The second quarter saw Regis widen the gap with six more goals, while Westminster added just one from Jordan Williamson. Regis continued to dominate, building a 12-4 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Westminster's offense found little success as Regis added six more goals across the final two periods. Williamson scored her second goal of the day in the fourth quarter, while Holly Shoughro added another late in the contest, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
For Westminster, Williamson led the team with two goals. Weldon, Rogers, Shoughro, and Szwedko each contributed one goal apiece. Regis had a balanced offensive attack, with Shea Murphy scoring a hat trick while Megan Bunker, Lexie Springman, and Alyse Valdez each added two goals.
The Griffins will look to bounce back when they travel to face Colorado Mesa University on Saturday, March 22, at Community Hospital Unity Field in Grand Junction, CO. Game time is set for 12:00 PM.
