San Rafael, Calif. – The Westminster Griffins Women's Lacrosse team kicked off their 2025 season with a strong performance, securing a 16-11 win over Saint Michael's College. The Griffins set the tone early, taking a 5-2 lead in the first quarter and never looking back as they maintained control throughout the game.
Offensive Standouts
The Griffins' offensive firepower was on full display, with Jordan Williamson leading the way with four goals, while Grace Szwedko and Olivia Petrosky each found the back of the net three times. Holly Shoughro (2), Madi Rogers (2), Shaina Shoughro (1), and Celia Fidanza (1) also contributed to Westminster's balanced attack.
Game Summary
Westminster jumped out to an early lead thanks to goals from Szwedko and Williamson, but Saint Michael's responded to tie the game at 2-2. However, the Griffins answered with three consecutive goals to close out the first quarter up 5-2.
In the second quarter, Westminster continued to press the attack, scoring six goals while holding Saint Michael's to just three. A late flurry of goals, including one from Shaina Shoughro with just 8 seconds left in the half, helped the Griffins take an 11-5 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter saw both teams trade goals, with Westminster maintaining its lead at 14-8 heading into the final period. The Griffins extended their advantage to 16-8 in the fourth quarter before Saint Michael's scored three late goals to narrow the margin to 16-11.
The Griffins' defense played a key role in securing the win, limiting Saint Michael's to just five first-half goals. Westminster's goalkeepers also stepped up when needed:
