Griffins Battle to the Wire but Fall to New Mexico Highlands

Las Vegas, NM – The Westminster Griffins Men's Basketball team took on the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys in a thrilling RMAC showdown that came down to the final moments. Despite a strong second-half push, the Griffins fell just short on the road, 79-76.

Westminster trailed 36-30 at halftime, but they came out with intensity in the second half, outscoring the Cowboys 46-43 in the final 20 minutes. However, New Mexico Highlands managed to hold off the Griffins' late-game surge, securing the narrow three-point victory.

Balanced Scoring Effort for the Griffins

Four different Griffins scored in double figures, showcasing a well-rounded offensive attack. Simon Akena led Westminster with 16 points, shooting an efficient 8-of-14 from the field while grabbing 7 rebounds. Donaval Avila added 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while Chase Potter contributed 13 points and 6 rebounds. Jack Jamele provided a boost off the bench, hitting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to finish with 10 points.

Nathan Hasberry added 14 points and 4 assists, while KJ LaMonte (13 points) and Ja'Kwon Hill (10 points) also played key roles in the win.
