PUEBLO, Colo. — Westminster women's basketball opened RMAC play on the road Thursday and came up just short in a 62–60 loss to CSU Pueblo after a back-and-forth fourth quarter.
The Griffins shot 49.0% (25–51) and outscored Pueblo 20–22 in the final frame, tying the game twice in the last minute. Ellie Mitchell knocked down a clutch three with five seconds left to make it 60–60, but Pueblo converted two free throws at the buzzer to take the win.
Mitchell led Westminster with 14 points on 5–7 shooting, including 3–4 from three, while Madison Anderson added 12 points and 5 rebounds. Nisa Ellis delivered 10 points on 5–5 shooting off the bench, and Teuila Nawahine finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Emily Evans recorded 7 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, and Klowie Pike added 7 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Westminster led 30–24 at halftime before Pueblo used a 16–10 third quarter to pull even. The Griffins won the glass 39–31, scored 32 points in the paint, and got 12 bench points, but Pueblo's 10 made threes and 19 steals proved to be the difference.
Westminster (2–3, 0–1 RMAC) continues its RMAC road weekend on Saturday.
