Westminster men's basketball dropped a nonconference contest to Western Oregon on Thursday afternoon, falling 78–72 at Behnken Field House. The Wolves built an early cushion behind a hot shooting first half and held off a late Griffins push to secure the road win.
Western Oregon shot 66.7% from the field and 60.0% from three in the opening half, taking a 47–34 lead at the break. Westminster responded in the second half, outscoring the Wolves 38–31, but could not fully erase the deficit.
Colin Hayes led the Griffins with 16 points, shooting 6–10 from the field and a perfect 4–4 at the free-throw line, while adding 5 rebounds. Cole Kadoguchi followed with 15 points on 5–7 shooting and 3–5 from three, and Jake Nadauld provided 11 points off the bench, going 4–6 from the floor.
Jonah El-Farra pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds, and Mitch Jeppesen added 8 points and 2 assists in reserve minutes. Westminster finished the game shooting 51.0% (26–51) from the field and 38.5% (5–13) from beyond the arc, while collecting 27 rebounds.
Western Oregon was led by Jadin Penigar, who scored 27 points on 10–16 shooting, including 5–6 from three, as the Wolves finished at 53.8% overall and 48.0% from long range.
With the loss, Westminster moves to 6–5 overall and will look to bounce back on Saturday.
