SALT LAKE CITY — Westminster women's basketball battled Saturday afternoon but came up short in a 76–66 loss to MSU Denver at Behnken Field House.
The game featured 15 ties and 16 lead changes, with the score even at 12–12 after the first quarter. MSU Denver gained a narrow edge at halftime, leading 35–32, before Westminster answered with a strong third quarter, outscoring the Roadrunners 17–15 to keep the game within reach heading into the final period.
Madison Anderson led Westminster with a team-high 18 points and 9 rebounds, shooting 7–13 from the field and 4–6 at the free-throw line. Emily Evans followed with 16 points on 6–14 shooting while adding 5 rebounds, and Ellie Mitchell chipped in 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Nisa Ellis added 8 points and 9 rebounds.
Teuila Nawahine finished with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists, and Alisi Peaua provided 6 points and 3 rebounds off the bench. Westminster finished with 46 rebounds, 38 points in the paint, and 17 second-chance points, keeping pressure on MSU Denver throughout.
MSU Denver was led by Mikylah Espinosa's 32 points, shooting 9–18 from the field and 11–13 at the free-throw line. The Roadrunners closed the game by scoring 26 points in the fourth quarter to pull away late.
Westminster (2–6, 0–4 RMAC) continues conference play next week.
