Westminster Drops Season Opener at Biola

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Westminster women's basketball opened its 2025–26 season on the road Friday evening, falling 70–53 to Biola inside Chase Gym in the team's first official contest of the year.

The Griffins started strong, taking a 15–10 lead after the first quarter behind efficient early shooting and a balanced attack. Biola responded with a 17-9 second frame to send Westminster into halftime trailing 27–24.

Emily Evans led the Griffins with 14 points, adding 9 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal while shooting 5–13 from the field. Teuila Nawahine finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists, going 6–8 from the free-throw line. Madison Anderson added 8 points and matched Evans with 9 rebounds, while Makeili Ika posted 7 boards and 3 assists.

Westminster pieced together its best offensive stretch in the third quarter, shooting 41.2 percent (7–17), but Biola closed the game with a 26-13 run in the fourth to pull away. The Griffins won the rebounding battle 47–31, including 20 offensive boards, and turned those into 15 second-chance points.

Alisi Peaua provided a spark off the bench with 8 points on 4–7 shooting, while Klowie Pike added 5 points, 3 assists, and a team-high 4 steals.

Biola was paced by a 24-point outing from Laney Grider and shot 69.2 percent in the fourth quarter to seal the result.

Westminster (0–1) returns to action today as it continues its non-conference slate.
