Westminster Pushes Pace but Falls to CUI, 89–74

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Westminster women's basketball put together its strongest offensive performance of the opening weekend but came up short on Saturday afternoon, falling 89–74 to Concordia Irvine in the finale at Chase Gym.

After trailing 27–10 after the first quarter and 52–25 early in the third, the Griffins responded with a high-energy second half, scoring 49 points after halftime, including 27 in the fourth quarter. Westminster shot 58.8% in the fourth and finished the afternoon at 51.9% from the field and 6–17 from three.

Teuila Nawahine delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 27 points on 8–14 shooting while adding 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and a block. She went 3–6 from beyond the arc and 8–11 at the free-throw line while accounting for multiple scoring runs that helped the Griffins trim the deficit throughout the second half.

Emily Evans added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Madison Anderson finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and a team-high 4 steals. Makeili Ika scored 7 points with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, while Brianna Mendez contributed 4 points. Off the bench, Klowie Pike chipped in 8 points and Marli Reed and Nisa Ellis each added 4.

Westminster pushed in transition throughout the game, producing 23 fast-break points, 42 points in the paint, and 24 points off turnovers. The Griffins also got 16 bench points and assisted on 17 field goals.

CUI countered with efficient perimeter shooting, finishing 12–26 from three, led by Ashari Cassell's 28 points on 10–13 shooting and Myia Collins' 17 points and 9 rebounds.

Westminster (0–2) returns home next week as it continues its non-conference schedule.
