Salt Lake City, UT - The Westminster Griffins men's soccer team continued their strong conference form with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over South Dakota Mines on Friday afternoon at Dumke Field. The win improves Westminster's record to 7–4–2 overall and 3–1–2 in RMAC play, while the Hardrockers fall to 6–5–3 and 1–5–1 in the conference. The Griffins showcased composure and control throughout the match, dictating possession and tempo from the opening whistle.
Despite a scoreless first half, Westminster's persistence paid off early in the second. In the 49th minute, James Miles broke the deadlock with a well-timed finish, assisted by Broc Underhill and Jack Cardwell. The goal stood as the difference-maker in an otherwise tight contest. The Griffins outshot the Hardrockers 12–3, including a 4–0 advantage in shots on target. Goalkeeper Tommy Manwaring anchored the defense with a clean sheet, though he went untested as Westminster's back line stifled every South Dakota Mines attack.
With the victory, the Griffins carry momentum into their next match up at home. Westminster will return to Dumke Field on Sunday, October 26th at 12:00 p.m., when they host Regis University. As the regular season winds down, the Griffins will look to capitalize on their recent defensive strength and continue climbing the RMAC standings in front of their home fans.
