Durango, CO - Despite weather scheduling conflicts, the Westminster University Women's Lacrosse team was ready for today's game as they faced off against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. In a RMAC contested match, the Griffins emerged victorious with a commanding 13-7 win, maintaining their unbeaten record in the RMAC standings.
The game started with both teams scoring quickly to open up the game, but it was Westminster's relentless offensive pressure that ultimately proved decisive. Led by Shaina Shoughro, who netted three goals, the Griffins seized control after trailing briefly at 3-2. Once they regained the lead at 4-3, they never looked back, throughout the rest of the game.
Contributions came from across the team, with Maddie Kellenher and Celia Fidanza chipping in with two goals apiece. Jordan Williamson, Clarin Kiki, Hannah Kelleher, Olivia Petrosky, Madi Rogers, and Annabelle also made significant contributions, each adding a goal to the tally.
Defensively, the Griffins were equally impressive, with Lindsay Thielen leading the charge with two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Goalkeeper Gabriella Cheminant put in a stellar performance between the posts, making eight key saves to secure the win.
Having started the season with a string of away games, the Griffins will return to the familiar confines of Dumke Field for their upcoming home opener on March 29th. They will face off against Colorado Mesa, with the action set to kick off at 4:00 PM. Tickets for the game are available for purchase at WestminsterGriffins.com, and fans can catch all the excitement live on the RMACNetwork.
