Gunnison, CO -The Westminster Griffins Women's Basketball team traveled to Paul Wright Gymnasium in Gunnison, Colorado, for a highly anticipated showdown against Western Colorado University on Saturday night. Despite a great effort, the Griffins faced a 68-58 defeat in the competitive RMAC contest in Colorado.
Leading the charge for the Griffins was Maunayia Harrigfeld, who showcased her skills with an impressive 18 points and 10 rebounds, securing a double-double. Harrigfeld was one of three players in double digits, followed by Teuila Nawahine, who contributed 15 points and added four assists. Elizabeth Means played a crucial role, logging 38 minutes, and achieved a double-double of her own with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The first quarter was a tightly contested battle, with the Griffins trailing by just one point. However, Western Colorado University seized control in the second quarter, dropping 20 points and shifting the momentum in their favor. Despite the setback, Westminster made a compelling effort in the fourth quarter, scoring 26 points as a team. Unfortunately, it fell short of completing the comeback on the road.
Jayda Maves led the home team with an impressive 19 points, while Alyssa Eckroth added 17, securing the victory for Western Colorado.
The road trip continues for the Griffins as they prepare for their next challenge in Colorado Springs. Next Friday night, they will face UCCS with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 PM.
