Westminster Men's Basketball Secures Gritty Road Win Against New Mexico Highlands

Las Vegas, NM - On Saturday night, Westminster University's Men's Basketball team hit the road for a crucial matchup in Las Vegas, New Mexico, aiming to secure additional conference wins as the season draws to a close. In a thrilling finish, the Griffins found themselves up by two points in the closing moments of the game. When New Mexico Highlands missed a crucial free throw attempt, Tyler Kurtz seized the rebound and drew a foul. With nerves of steel, Kurtz stepped up to the free-throw line and sunk both shots, sealing a hard-fought 75-71 upset victory for the Griffins in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Throughout the game, the Griffins maintained a slim two-point lead heading into halftime, and the intensity only intensified in the second half, with both teams battling fiercely until the final buzzer. Trey Wood delivered an outstanding performance, leading all scorers with 27 points while also pulling down an impressive 13 rebounds. Kurtz not only secured the victory with his clutch free throws but also notched a double-double of his own, tallying 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Despite building a substantial lead of 69-53 at one point, the Griffins faced a spirited comeback effort from the home team, which narrowed the gap in the closing minutes. Nonetheless, Westminster showed resilience and composure to hold on for the crucial road win, marking their eighth victory of the year and fourth in conference play.

Next up, the Griffins return home to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they will host Colorado Mesa on Tuesday night followed by Western Colorado on Thursday. The Thursday night matchup will be especially significant as the team honors its seniors for Senior Night. Fans can secure their tickets now at WestminsterGriffins.com.
