Lakewood, CO - The Westminster Griffins Volleyball team returned to the CCU Event Center floor on Saturday night to face the host, Colorado Christian University, in a critical RMAC matchup. Entering the evening with a 5-5 conference record and holding onto the eighth spot in the RMAC standings, the Griffins aimed to keep their tournament position alive. Colorado Christian, a game ahead in fifth place, sought to widen the gap.
The Griffins fought hard, but despite three close sets, they couldn't secure a victory, ultimately falling to the Cougars in straight sets.
In the first two sets, the Cougars edged out the Griffins with identical scores of 25-21, building a two-set lead. The third set saw another strong battle, but the Cougars closed it out with a 25-18 win to seal the match.
Breegan Huntsman led Westminster with 13 kills, while Leila Cornejo contributed 16 assists. Josie Gerritsen added 11 assists and led the team in blocks with two. Alanna Lee paced the defense with 14 digs, followed closely by Gerritsen with 10.
UP NEXT: The Griffins will return home to Utah for a crucial matchup on Friday, Nov. 8, where they'll honor their seniors and look to strengthen their bid for an RMAC Tournament spot against New Mexico Highlands University.
