Salt Lake City, UT - Jérémie Lagier one of the Westminster Griffins on the Men's Alpine Ski team has gone back to France and had an opportunity to discuss his journey to Salt Lake City, UT at Westminster College with SKI Chrone and the story is below.Â
"He's back. Jérémie Lagier has returned to France at the end of this season, notably to obtain his ski instructor certification this week in Tignes. The Frenchie has returned to his routine after a season abroad at Westminster College in Salt Lake City.
"It was awesome," says the 25-year-old from Les Saisies, Savoie, after his first experience abroad. "It went well." Looking to get points on the Nor-Am circuit (the second level, like the Europa Cup), the specialist of GS and Slalom placed in the Top 10 three times, racing across the continent from Alaska to Quebec, through Colorado, and "at home" in Utah, becoming a pro at booking flights. "The goal of this first year was to earn my spot for better starting positions next season."
He also had to defend his university's colors in the NCAA championship with numerous podium finishes, as a student athlete. "We are 14 in the team, with only 2 Americans, the others are foreigners like me. There is a great team spirit." He was joined in the winter by another Savoyard from Courchevel, Enzo Cenerelli.
Training with Henrik Kristoffersen
Jérémie Lagier also participated in other races. "My professors were very understanding," says the sports management student with a smile. "But I still went to class. It's not easy to do everything, but it was good for my balance." Although he admits he struggled with English at first, he is now perfectly comfortable.
When he wasn't competing, the Savoyard trained 25 minutes away from campus. In Aspen in November, he also had the opportunity to train with none other than Henrik Kristoffersen. "I'm a partner in Sarah Schleper's structure, I set up training for young people and I can train as well," he explains.
Two medals at the University Games
In the middle of the season, he also shone at the University Games in Lake Placid by winning two medals: bronze in giant slalom and silver in slalom. In contact with David Chastan (Head Coach of the national team), he almost made his comeback in World Cup (2 starts in 2020) during the Palisades Tahoe races, but the staff had selected Léo Anguenot...
After a bit of vacation at the end of last week, physical training in Albertville, and a few days of skiing with the Savoie team, where he is always welcome, Jérémie Lagier is going back to America. First to the south in Chile (with Schleper's team), then back to Salt Lake City for a second winter in the US with plenty of ambition. "I'm going back full throttle!"
