Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Five different Griffins score in their road win in Idaho.

Nampa, ID - The Westminster Women's Soccer team took a trip to Idaho for the weekend as their first challenge came against Hawaii Pacific University where five different Griffins found the back of the net in the 5-2 victory in their first of two games of the weekend on NNU Soccer Field

"That's exactly what we want to see. The forwards have been working so hard and it was nice multiple ones found the back of the net," said Head Coach Tony LeBlanc. "When the forwards work hard it opens up the midfield. And the midfield scored some great goals too. So all around, great offensive effort."

The action began with Cassidy Jackson scoring the first goal in the first five minutes of play as Westminster had the early goal advantage which was assisted by Madison Schmidt and Alexa Maple and the second goal came by Maple who was set up by Necie Gubler which put the Griffins on top 2-0 at near the 23rd minute of play.

Hawaii Pacific University was able to cut the lead to one at halftime as both teams entered the locker room with Westminster leading 2-1.

As the second half began the Griffins were able to score three goals in a span of six minutes to capture their largest lead of the game as Gubler scored her first goal of the game with Maple adding another assist in the game, less than a minute later Schmidt hit the back of the net and the final goal was by Cassidy Orr who was assisted by Kim Hendrickson

"I thought we played pretty well when we dictated the pace. After the second goal we let down a bit and HPU took advantage of that with a good goal," LeBlanc said. "We challenged the players out of halftime and they responded very well to score 3 quick goals. So they did everything asked of them today."

The Griffins watched Kelsea Cracroft play 65 minutes before Mashaun Estridge made her way into the goal to end the game.

UP NEXT: The Griffins will take on the hometown team of Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday, Sept. 10 with kick-off scheduled for 2:00 PM MDT, and Coach LeBlanc is ready for the next game.

"That should be a great game. Mindset is to make sure we are prepared and keep executing. Scoring goals always help but running the system is paramount. And that's what we expect on Saturday too."
