Lacey, WA - The Westminster Griffins Volleyball team began their second road trip of the year this time in Washington. They played a doubleheader where they played some great action and kept the sets close, but the Griffins would be defeated in both games on Friday.
First, up for the Griffins they took on
Western New Mexico University and the Griffins were able to take the third set 25-22, but that was the lone set they would get in the first game of the day.
Lydia Miller had 10 kills to lead the team as
Emma Reardon had 8 and
Malinda Messner and Mailie Myers each had 7.
Sadie Babka had two service aces in the loss.
Game two of the day saw the Griffins and Wolves of Western Oregon and it was a battle between the team teams. The sets were two-point sets as the Wolves took sets 1 (26-24) and set 3 (25-22) and set 4 (25-21).
The Griffins were able to take set 2 (25-23) and saw Lydia Miller lead the team in kills with 17and three blocks and right behind her was
Malinda Messner who notched another double-digit performance with 10 of her own in the four sets.
Emma Reardon led the team in digs with 12 as her teammates
Alanna Lee and
Leila Cornejo both added on the defensive end of the floor for the Griffins with 10 digs each.
Tomorrow the tournament play continues as the Griffins volleyball team will play two more games on the schedule.
Starting with
Adelphi University at 12:00 PM and the final game will be against the home team in
Saint Martin's University at 4:00 PM.
