Griffins take New Highlands to five sets in first conference win

Las Vegas, NM - The Westminster Griffins fought and clawed their way to their first conference win of the year as they defeat New Mexico Highlands in five sets  Emma Reardon leads the way in kills with 15 in New Mexico.

"Love the way we battled tonight, especially winning a close five-setter on the road," Head Coach Sue Dulaney said.  "Key players came off the bench and made huge contributions, especially Regan Jackson."

Lydia Miller was the other Griffin with double-digit kills with 11 and added six digs to the night for Westminster as Leila Cornejo once again got her teammates involved leading the way with 47 assists and 11 digs on her own in the road win and Jackson added 8 kills on the night and made an impact as Coach said.

It was thrilling to kick off the weekend away for the Griffins as the first set didn't go as planned for Westminster as they fell 25-17.

After falling in the first set, the Griffins began the second set with a bang! Started on an 11-0 start as the home team finally tacked on their first point after an 11-point rally by the Griffins and captured two wins 25-18.

In the third set, the Griffins once again couldn't surpass 17 points on the scoreboard, but the fourth set was all there once again in a 25-21 battle to send the game into the fifth and final set.

It was Reardon in the final set that found back-to-back kills that put the Griffins on top on the scoreboard and secured the victory in Las Vegas, New Mexico in a wild volley to end the game and capture the first conference win of the year and Coach Dulaney knows it was a good night to capture that win.

"It's a nice feeling to get our first RMAC win and now it's time to get ready for tomorrow. We have a lot of potential with this group and need to believe we can win and tonight was evidence of that."

UP NEXT: The road trip will continue for the Griffins will head back to Colorado with a matchup with Adams State University on Sept, 17 as all the action can be watched on the RMAC Network.
