Salt Lake City, UT - The Westminster Men's Basketball has released its 2022-23 schedule with some local ties that will get fans and players excited for the upcoming season this winter as another season will be played in the Behnken Field House.
The Griffins will open up their exhibition season with the University of Utah on Nov. 2 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center to begin their 2022 journey, but the Utes aren't the only in-state team that Westminster will play as they will also take on Brigham Young University in another exhibition game, but this time it will be played at Vivint Arena on Nov. 29 as the two teams will play on the Utah Jazz floor.
"It is huge! They are the three biggest Men's Basketball teams in our state and all of those schools have a rich basketball history and the arenas have a ton of history too," said Assistant Coach,
Patrick Amico, who is the scheduling coordinator for the mans basketball team. "Student-athletes in this state dream of playing in those arenas their whole lives. We tell recruits when we are out recruiting that we are going to try and schedule these teams, so it feels good to be able to have these games on the schedule."
The final exhibition game will be at Logan, UT when the Griffins will travel and take on Aggies of Utah State on Dec. 15 as it will be the first time in the school's history that they will play three D-1 teams in the state of Utah in on the season.
"We are the only team in the state that is playing, BYU, Utah, and Utah St. where we get to play at Vivint Arena this year is unbelievable," said Amico. "It's not only the home of the Utah Jazz but Vivant Arena will also host the NBA All-Star game this year. It will be a very special night for our guys.
The 2022-23 season will open up conference play on Dec. 2 at home when the Roadrunners of Metropolitan State University of Denver will enter the Behnken Field House as the RMAC season will begin in Salt Lake City, UT, and will continue the following night with Colorado School of Mines with tip-off starting at 7:00 PM (MDT.)
With a few key players returning from last year and some new talent entering Westminster college it should be a great season for the Griffins as they prepare for the season this winter.
