SALT LAKE CITY -- Eden Freiberg led the way for the Westminster Griffins (0-1,0-1 RMAC) with a team high of three goals as the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (1-0,1-0 RMAC) spoil the Griffins' 2020 home-opener on Dumke Field, 17-10.
The Griffins started out with a bang to start the new season in Salt Lake City as
Grace Carico (two goals), Hannah and
Maddie Kelleher (two goals) each added their first goal of the season as the Griffins had a 3-1 lead in the first quarter of play.
Despite an early goal advantage to start the game, the Griffins found themselves adding seven more goals throughout the game.
Lauren Shoughro scored her first goal in the third quarter as the lead shrunk as the Skyhawks led by two goals, but a strong offensive attack hurt the Griffins as they found themselves trailing 16-9 enterting the final quarter of play as the Skyhwaks netted 7 goals.
Westminster will look to bounce back when they return to Dumke Field on Sunday, Mar 6 with face-off scheduled at 12P.M. (MDT) as Adams State University travels to Westminster College.
