ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Lauren Shoughro added another two goals to her season total but Westminster women's lacrosse (1-3) fell, 13-5, at Missouri Western State (3-4) on Sunday at Spratt Memorial Stadium.

Katie Thielen each finished with a team-leading five ground balls and Westminster finished with a 23-20 edge in ground balls for the game. Westminster was only 18-of-30 on clear attempts for the game, however, and lost the face-off battle with MWSU owning a 17-5 advantage in draw controls at the end of the game.
Missouri Western State scored the first two goals of the contest but Westminster put together three-straight goals in just over 30 seconds midway though thee quarter. Westminster carried a one-goal advantage into the second period but fell behind again in the second on a MWSU free position goal.
Shoughro netted her second of the game to even the score at 4-4 but MWSU scored the final three to end the first half. After ending the first quarter with a 7-6 edge in total shots, Westminster was limited to just seven shots in the second and third combined as MWSU opened up a five-goal advantage going into the fourth.
Grace Rappl grabbed her third goal of the season to get one back for Westminster to begin the final quarter, but MWSU goalkeeper Mackenzie Porter came up with four fourth-quarter saves to help keep Westminster out of the net over the final 13 and a haalf minutes of the game.
Westminster will have next week off from competition before getting set to host Division II powerhouse, fourth-ranked Lindenwood, on Monday, March 28, beginning at 6 p.m. (MDT). For tickets, visit
