Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Griffins Fall Behind Early, Fall Short to Colorado Mesa at Home

Westminster women's basketball was defeated, 83-73, on Tuesday night at Behnken Field House.

SALT LAKE CITY - Rae Falatea fell just a field goal shy of a season-high scoring outburst with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Abby Mangum had her second straight 20-point game but Westminster women's basketball (11-6, 10-3 RMAC) fell, 83-73, to Colorado Mesa (15-4, 10-4 RMAC) on Tuesday night at Behnken Field House.

Westminster finished the night 31-of-58 (53 percent) from the floor as a unit and 5-of-8 from three, but were unable to get the game within an eight-point margin over the final quarter as the Mavericks consistently knocked down shots from all over the court.  The Griffins had a season-low five turnovers but were out-rebounded 38-26 on the night.

CMU finished with 18 offensive rebounds and 24 second-chance points while the Griffins finished the night with only 11 second-chance points.

After finishing the first quarter on an 8-0 run in which the Griffins failed to score over the final four minutes, Westminster climbed its way back into the game to begin the second.  Hunter Krebs evened the game at 25-25 from behind the arc and just minutes later Abby Mangum put the Griffins ahead with a three of her own.  Colorado Mesa finished the second on another run, however, taking a seven-point lead into the halftime break.

Westminster finished 8-of-14 (57 percent) as a team in the third period, but were unable to keep pace with a Mavericks' side that knocked down 3-of-5 three-pointers in the quarter.  Despite its second-best shooting quarter of the game, Westminster fell behind by 10 going into the fourth after a 22-point quarter from Colorado Mesa.

Mariah Martin began the week as the third-leading scorer in the conference and finished with 24 points on 8-of-22 shooting and 7-of-8 shooting at the free throw line.  Daniella Turner finished 6-of-18 on the night with 19 points and seven rebounds while Kelsey Siemons (15 pts), Monica Brooks (14 pts) and Sophie Anderson (11 pts), also made it into double figures.

Westminster will look ahead to Thursday night as it gets set to host South Dakota School of Mines beginning at 5 p.m. back at Behnken Field House.
