Salt Lake City, UT - It's been a few games since the men's soccer team captured a win on their home turf, but in a battle between two RMAC teams it was the Westminster Griffins who took down Colorado Mesa on Wednesday night under the lights as the lights shined bright on the Griffins in the 3-1 victory at home.
"I thought tonight was a very important game for us," said Head Coach
Josh Pittman. "We played well this past weekend and we needed to follow it up with a good performance tonight and I thought the guys did a good job."
The game started with Colorado Mesa striking first, but the Griffins' three straight goals, where all three hit the back of the net in the second half, helped the Griffins into the night to leave Dumke Field with cheers from the stands, but Pittman knew his team took a gamble on Mesa's lone goal.
"I was disappointed in the first goal because we gambled one time defensively and we paid for it."
The first goal for the Griffins was the equalizer by
Jack Cardwell scoring his third goal of the year and then
Gage Wood helped take the first lead of the game as the Griffins led 2-1, but it was the final goal by
Brennan Neeley who lifted the Griffins to the third goal of the night and the celebration was on.
"I thought we moved the ball well and scored a goal against the run of play to tie and then our second goal came as we had Mesa on the back foot," Pittman said. "Overall, I thought all the guys stepped up tonight. Now we have a huge game Friday against Metro State.
