GOLDEN, Colo. - Westminster men's basketball (8-10, 6-6 RMAC) had a season-low 25 rebounds and never led in an 88-48 loss at Colorado School of Mines (8-7, 6-5 RMAC) on Saturday night at the Lockridge Arena.
Westminster connected on a pair of late first half three's to close the halftime gap but trailed by 12 at the intermission after beginning the game just 10-of-28 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. Mines went on a 10-4 run to begin the second half and connected on seven second half three's while Westminster went just 1-of-9 as a team from behind the arc in the second.
The Griffins began the weekend with the third most rebounds per game (37.1) and second-best rebounding margin (+6.8) in the conference but were outrebounded 43-25 on Saturday night as the Orediggers tallied 16 second-chance points on 10 offensive boards.
The Orediggers owned a 38-22 advantage in points in the paint and Colorado School of Mines finished the game 34-of-64 (53 percent) from the field as a team. Mines had four different players knock down two or more three's and finished with 11 from long range, collectively.
Reme Torbert connected on two three's for the Griffins on the night and finished with a team-leading 10 points while
Yusuf Mohamed finished with nine points and six boards.
Brayden Johnson led Westminster with seven rebounds, all on the defensive end.
Westminster will be back at home next weekend as it gets set to host Western Colorado on Fri., Jan. 28, and Fort Lewis on Sat., Jan. 29. Per Westminster College COVID-19 safety protocols, no spectators will be permitted into Behnken Field House for next week's games.
