DENVER - Ashley Greenwood scored a game-high 19 points and connected on a go-ahead field goal with 90 seconds to play to help lift Westminster women's basketball (8-4, 7-1 RMAC) to a 58-57 win over Regis (9-8, 5-5 RMAC) on Friday night at the Regis Field House.
Westminster led by five with just under four minutes to play when the Rangers' got back within a single possession on a Tashika Burrell three-pointer. Regis then forced a pair of Griffins' turnovers and Josey Ryan evened the game, 56-56, with a pair of free throw's off of a fast break attempt.
Greenwood then brought the ball into the half court with just over one and a half minutes to play and connected on a go-ahead field goal, pulling up over the top of a screen from teammate
Hunter Krebs.
With just 55 seconds to play in regulation, Sam Deem had a chance to even the game again from the free throw line, but missed on her second of two attempts. The Rangers would manage another two possessions to try gaining the lead back but missed on three-straight field goals to end the game.
Greenwood finished 8-of-15 from the field with six rebounds while teammate
Abby Mangum poured in 14 points and grabbed five steals with two blocks, defensively.
Rae Falatea went 4-of-8 from the floor and led Westminster with eight rebounds while
Hunter Krebs pulled in seven boards and led the Griffins with four assists.
The 17th-ranked shooting team in the nation going into the weekend, Westminster finished the night 26-of-51 (51 percent) from the floor as a unit while holding Regis to just 19-of-64 (29.7 percent) overall.
Westminster will stay in the Denver area overnight as it gets set to take on 13th-ranked Colorado School of Mines tomorrow night beginning at 5 p.m. The Griffins will then travel to Chadron, Neb., to play a make-up game on Monday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m.
