DALLAS, TEXAS — Bri Mortensen dished out another 41 assists to help Westminster volleyball (1-2) take down Eastern New Mexico (0-3) in five sets (21-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 15-12) on Saturday morning as the Griffins closed out the Patriot Tournament at Dallas Baptist University.
Sophomore Westminster setter,
Bri Mortensen, followed up a career day on day one of the tournament with another 41 assists, helping
Olivia Curtis (14) and Lydia Miller (11) to double digit kills on the Griffins attack. Mortensen finished with a double-double, adding 12 digs defensively. Liberos,
Alanna Lee (20) and
Katie Jacox (13) also added double digit digs on the defensive end for Westminster.
Miller's 11 kills came on just 31 attacks (.258) and Westminster finished with a combined .421 attack percentage in the decisive fifth set. The Griffins trailed early in the set, but came storming back to even the set at 10-10. Westminster won the final three points of the match on a trio of Eastern New Mexico errors to close out the match.
Westminster will return to action next weekend in California for the SoCal Freeway Challenge. The Griffins will open play on day one of two against Point Loma and Cal Cal State Dominuguez next Friday, Sept. 10.
