WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Armin Hasanovic scored on a wide open net in the 33rd minute to put the Griffins ahead as Westminster men's soccer (2-4) bounced back from a ranked loss on Thursday with a 2-0 win over Texas A&M International (2-4) on Saturday at Stang Park.
Hasanovic's first-half goal was a result of the Griffins' aggressive pressing.
Carlos Becerra-Gomez and
Kaden Amano forced a poor backwards pass into the Texas A&M International penalty area which
Max Bingman then intercepted and quickly played across to the edge of the six-yard-box. Bingman's quick pass found the feet of a wide open Hasanovic who netted his first goal of the season to put Westminster on top, 1-0.
Westminster carried its one-goal lead into the break and through the majority of the second half as
Noah Larkin was forced into four saves on the afternoon to help preserve the Griffins' clean sheet.
Luis Martinez added his name to the scoresheet for the first time on the year with an 87th-minute goal off of a
Cole Kartchner assist to secure the Westminster win.
The Griffins return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22, back at Dumke Field as they host Colorado Mesa beginning at 7 p.m.
