SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster men's soccer (2-5) fell behind on a pair of first half goals and were limited to just four shots on target in a 2-0 loss to 16th-ranked Colorado Mesa on Wednesday night at Dumke Field.

Westminster came out of the gates with a sense of urgency, fielding a starting lineup less some key inactives.  The Griffins held the advantage in shots on goal (4-3) at the end of 90 minutes but it was CMU that saw more quality opportunities as the Mavericks scored twice before the break and were able to maintain its defensive shape throughout the second half.

Noah Larkin was unable to secure a hard shot from CMU's Aaron Martinez and Alec Fronapfel took advantage of a wide open net with a first time strike to give Colorado Mesa the lead in the 22nd minute.

With under five minutes to play before halftime, Raymond Jackson heaved a long throw in from the Griffins defensive third into the Westminster penalty area, which was deflected by Jorge Rodriguez and buried into the net by Jannick Lange to put CMU up 2-0.

Westminster threw numbers into the attacking third, racking up eight second-half shots, but were unable to find any quality chances as the Mavericks held onto the two-goal lead through the final whistle.

The Griffins will close out its nonconference schedule on the road as they face Fort Lewis College on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. MDT.
