SALT LAKE CITY--The Westminster women's lacrosse team defeated Adams State Sunday to improve to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Griffins were led by
Eden Freiberg with seven goals in the 22-1 win.
Westminster dominated the stat sheet with 42 shots, 34 on goal, 27 ground balls, 20 draw control wins and four caused turnovers. Adams State took eight shots, three on goal, picked up 17 ground balls, won five draw controls and caused three turnovers.Â
Seven Griffins scored in the first half for a 15-0 lead. Thirteen seconds into the game,
Maddie Kelleher scored her first career goal to get the offense rolling. The team scored eight goals in the opening 10 minutes.
The Griffins scored seven more in the second half while slowing the game down with longer bouts of possession while working the shot clock down as low as possible.
Adams State scored just their third goal of the season with a free position goal seven minutes into the half.
Ten players scored for the Griffins. with Freiberg leading the team with nine points from seven goals and two assists. Maddei Kelleher and
Lauren Shoughro each had a hat-trick. Kelleher also had two assists and Shoughro had one to round out the top-three in point tallies.
Madalyn Degarlais,
Riley Weldon and M. Kelleher each had three ground balls to lead the team.
Audree Erekson led the team with six draw control wins and three caused turnovers.Â
