Hannah Kelleher and
Melissa Reeves each scored a second half goal to keep from being shutout in a 19-2 loss to the 12
th ranked Rangers.
Westminster was out shot 36-4, picked up 19 ground balls and won five draw controls. Regis won 24 draw controls and picked up 24 ground balls.
Westminster failed to record a shot in the first period while the Rangers pushed forward with 24 shots and 12 goals in a dominant first half performance. Kyleigh Peoples led the offensive assault with four goals and an assist.
Hannah Bargeron came on part way through the first half and made three saves for the Griffins.
The Griffins tightened up the defense and held the Rangers to 12 shots with
Mikala Davis and Bargeron combining for five saves. The Griffins took four shots and scored twice from free positions shots.
Eden Freiberg hit the post early in the half for Westminster's first attempts and
Audree Erekson's attempt missed right, shortly after 10 minutes had passed.
Hannah Kelleher picked up the ground ball from Erekson's shot, and earned a free position shot which she scored to put Westminster on the scoresheet. Reeves earned a free position shot with two minutes left and beat Elle Crawford for the team's second goal.
Erekson and Davis led the Griffins with four ground balls each. Erekson won four of Westminster's five draw controls wins and
Riley Weldon led the team with two caused turnovers.
Peoples led the Rangers with five goals and two assists and was one of five Rangers with a team-high three ground balls.
The Griffins have five more games left in the regular season. Their season continues Sunday, Apr. 18, at CSU Pueblo at 12 pm. They are home again on Tuesday, Apr. 20, against UCCS.
