Decisive Second Period See Men's Lacrosse Past Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colo.—Ten players scored for the Griffins in a 16-7 win over the Adams State Grizzlies.
 
Eight second period goals put the Griffins strongly ahead after a quiet first period saw just three goals scored. Andoni Odencrantz helped break the dead lock by assisting Blake Gross for the game's opening goal after 11 scoreless minutes. A pair of goals by Adams State's Jacob Austin finished the half with the Grizzlies leading, 2-1
 
Seven players scored for the Griffins in the second period with five in a row in four minutes. They finished the period with three more goals in the final two minutes to lead by six, 9-3, at the half.
 
Adams State earned two points back by scoring four goals in the third period.
 
The Griffins finished strong on both sides of the ball scoring five goals and shutting the home side out in the final period. Andrew Thomas and Spencer Whinery both completed a hat-trick with the final three goals of the game.
 
Westminster out shot Adams State 46 to 22 with 36 to 11 shots on goal. The Griffins won 19-27 faceoffs, caused 13 turnovers, and picked up 23 ground balls. The Grizzlies picked up 16 ground balls and caused seven turnovers.
 
Ten players scored for the Griffins with four players scoring multiple goals. Whinery and Thomas both had hat-tricks and Carson Capps and Gross each scored two. Odencrantz led the team with nine points on one goal and a season-high eight assists.
 
On the defensive side of the ball the Griffins held the Grizzlies to just three shots in the second and third period. Chance Beutler led the team with six ground balls. Hagan Buchanan stepped into the faceoff role and won 15-20.
 
Jacob Miller entered in the third period for his debut between the pipes. Miller made three saves with just one goal against in 21 minutes.
 
The Griffins have two games next week. A home game against UVU on Thursday. Apr. 15, at 7 pm and a neutral site game against Colorado College in Grand Junction, Colo., on Sunday, Apr. 18, at 1 pm.
