MONTEVALLO, Ala.—
Gabe Mein scored eight goals and tallied four assists to lead the Griffins to a season opening win over Montevallo University.
The Griffins started the game with a five-point first period lead. Mein got the Griffins started with the opening goal and went on to complete a hat-trick in the period.
Merritt McMahon scored his second goal and the game winner in the second period. After three periods the Griffins led by six, 12-6.
Three goals in the fourth period pushed Westminster's lead to seven for the 15-8 win.
McMahon scored the final goal of the game to complete a hat-trick with Mein. Mein scored in every period to record a career-high of eight goals.
Will Dutton scored in the first period for his first goal of the season.

Keagan Jones and Joseph Celentano scored their first goal as a Griffin.
Eli Gaunt went 13-25 on faceoffs and led the team with five ground balls.
Kyle Williams picked up four ground balls and
Gavin Beilman played the 60 minutes in goal making four saves.
Thomas Vaesen and Jackson Neufeld led the Falcons with two goals each. Goalie Kyle Little made 13 saves.
Westminster's road trip continues Saturday (Mar. 6) at 6 pm MST at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
