Griffins Draw In RMAC Opener With Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Noah Larkin made six saves to help the men's soccer team earn a point, on the road, in its conference opener at Colorado Mesa.
 
The Griffins managed only eight shots but were efficient in their chances with six shots on goal. Mesa out shot Westminster (0-1-1-1, 0-0-1 RMAC) by nine but only had three more shots on target.
 
The Griffins came back to tie the game late in the second half. Mesa took the lead with five minutes left in the first half when Alec Fronapfel scored in the lower left corner.
 
Jace Vance scored his first career goal and equalized in the 83rd minute. A shot by Marshall Johnson, saved by Mesa goalkeeper Brendan Brown, fell to Vance who scored in the in the lower-right corner.
 
Larkin made five saves to shut the Mavericks out in the second half. The teams failed to create and chance on goal in overtime as the game played out to a 1-1 draw.
 
Johnson and Vance led the team with two shots and one shot on goal. Armin Hasanovic, Kaden Amano, Justus Kjellander and Adam Koblanski all recorded a shot on goal.
 
The Griffins travel to MSU Denver on Sunday, Mar. 28, at 10 am.
