Women’s Volleyball Falls To No. 4 MSU Denver

SALT LAKE CITY—The Westminster women's volleyball team fell in three sets (22-25, 18-25, 19-25) to the No. 4 ranked MSU Denver Roadrunners.

The Griffins faced a top-five ranked opponent for the second time in three days. Westminster started of strong in the first set. The Griffins recorded six kills and an ace during a 12-4 run for   a five-point lead,14-9. 

Westminster led for several points until the Roadrunners went on a 10-1 run to regain the lead propelling them to the opening set win.

The second set was tied five times over the opening 24 points and the Griffins led once, 12-11. MSU Denver cruised to a second set win after making two runs to go up by seven, 23-16.

Westminster made two 5-2 runs in the third set but were unable to catch the Roadrunners in the third set.

Malinda Messner had eight kills and Lydia Miller had seven to lead the Griffins' offensive efforts. Bri Mortensen recorded 21 assists and two kills. 

Holland Vande Merwe and Miller reached double-digit digs. Vande Merwe had a team-high 16 and Miller recorded 11. Green led the team with three blocks, two solos and one block assist.

The roadrunners were led by Rylee Hladky with 14 kills. Jessa Megenhardt recorded 19 assists and Hladky had 17 digs.

The Griffins will host Colorado Christian to finish the RMAC regular season on Friday, Mar. 2, at 5 pm.
