CALDWELL, Idaho—The Westminster women's volleyball team swept the College of Idaho Coyotes to finish the weekend.
The Griffins won the first set by seven, 25-18. The home side was leading, 3-5, until the Griffins went on a 9-2 run to take a five-point lead. They followed that run with an 8-2 run to go up by nine, 21-12.
After four lead changes and two ties to begin the second set, Westminster took a three-point lead. The Coyotes went on a 5-1 run to tie the game at 16 but a 7-1 run put the Griffins back in front, 23-17. The Coyotes made one last push but fell short with the Griffins winning 25-21.
The Griffins finished the set winning a marathon third set, 33-31. Taking an early lead, Westminster led by as much as five until the Coyotes tied the game at 21. College of Idaho took its first lead, 24-25, and led until 27-28. Westminster had three match point chances and College of Idaho had one over the final eight points.
Audrey Green and
Katie Jacox led the Griffins with nine kills each.
Lydia Miller and
Malinda Messner came second on the team with seven kills each.
Bri Mortensen recorded 37 assists, four kills and eight digs.
Holland Vande Merwe led with 27 digs.
College of Idaho's Austyn Mauzy led all players with 12 kills. Chloe Knudson had 15 digs, Abigail Guinn recorded 20 assists and Margie Beeler recorded 18 for the Coyotes.
Westminster travels to Grand Junction to play Colorado Mesa on Wednesday, Mar. 17. The Griffins will finish the season at home against MSU Denver on Mar. 20 and Colorado Christian on Mar. 26.
