NAMPA, Idaho—
Bryson Hirabayashi finished second to lead the Griffins to a sixth-place finish at the NNU Nighthawks Invitational. The Griffins were the lone RMAC school competing in a field of 14.
Just seven strokes separated seventh from first. The Griffins shot the third lowest score of the second round (303) and finished with a two-round total of 616, six strokes back from first. Western Washington and Sonoma State University were tied at 610 with Western Washington winning in a non-sudden death tiebreaker. Cal State East Bay and Academy of Art University finished tied third with a score of 614.
Hirabayashi jumped up 14 spots to finish second, one stroke behind Julius Kreutzer of the Academy of Art University, who finished first. Hirabayashi shot 2-under, 70 for the second lowest score in the second round. Hirabayashi was 1-under through the front nine with three birdies and 1-under on the back nine with his fourth birdie of the day.
Alec Williams moved up 17 places to finish tied 18
th. Williams made three birdies to shoot 2-over, 74 in the second round to finish with a two-round total of 154.
Masen Ward finished tied 26
th (+13),
Zach Dallimore finished tied 48
th (+17) and
Davis Amis finished tied 52
nd (+19).
The Griffins have one more tournament before the RMAC Championships on April 18-21 at the WigWam Golf Course in Litchfield, Ariz. The Griffins next tournament is the Mustang Intercollegiate, hosted by Western New Mexico, will be April 5-6 at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
