DURANGO, Colo.— The Westminster women's volleyball went 0-2 this weekend, losing in five sets to Black Hills State and four sets to Fort Lewis College.
Match 1: Westminster 2 – 3 Black Hills State (25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 13-25, 7-15)
The Griffins (2-4, 1-4 RMAC) were at their best in the opening set of the first match against Black Hills State (2-1, 2-1 RMAC). The Griffins won 25-17 with a .438 hitting percentage and 15 kills. They won the second set, 25-20, for a two-set lead.
The Yellowjackets won the next three as Westminster suffered a significant drop in the team's hitting percentage.
Malinda Messner recorded 10 kills and a .429 hitting percentage to lead the team in both stats.
Katie Jacox had a season-high nine kills,
Audrey Green recorded eight and
Lydia Miller had seven.
Bri Mortensen recorded a season-high 38 assists and was just two digs shy of a double-double with eight digs.
Green led the team defensively with a season-high 12 digs.
Holland Vande Merwe and Jacox both had nine, and
Katana Montford had eight.
Match 2: Westminster 1 – 3 Fort Lewis (25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25)
Fort Lewis (2-3, 2-3 RMAC) won the second set, 25-21, to tie the match 1-1. The Griffins hit at a clip of .304 and recorded 11 kills to win the opening set over the hosts.
The final two sets were closely contested with 12 ties and seven lead changes in the third set, and eight ties and six lead changes in the final set.
Miller led the team with a season-high 15 kills with a .429 hitting percentage. Green recorded 10 kills and Messner recorded nine.
Mortensen recorded a double-double with 31 assists and a team-high 12 digs. She also recorded a season high three blocks.
Colorado Mesa hosts the next pod, Friday Feb. 12, where the Griffins will play Colorado Christian and the Mavericks.
