GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Westminster men's basketball team lost to Colorado Mesa, 63-60, as their first half lead slips away late in the second half.
 
Both teams made 12 first half field goals with the Griffins making four threes and the Mavericks making eight. The Griffins went 7-9 from the free throw line to take a three-point first half lead.
 
With a minute and a half to play, the Maverick led by five after a 11-3 run. The Griffins came within one after a 
Joey Andrews three and a pair of 
Matt Kitzman free throws. Mesa went up by three on a pair of free throws to win the game.
 
Westminster out scored Mesa 32-18 in the paint and out rebounded the home side 38-29 to score 20 second chance points.
 
Andrews grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and led the team with 15 points and four assists. He shot 5-12 from the field, 3-5 from three and 2-2 from the free throw line.
 
Reme Torbert and 
Brandon Willardson rounded out Westminster's top three with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
 
The Griffins travel to Grand Rapids, S.D., to play South Dakota School of Mines Saturday at 6:00 pm.
