Griffins Fall To Rangers In Overtime

DENVER, Colo.—Westminster's women's basketball fell in overtime to Regis, 78-81.
 
The Griffins (10-4, 10-4 RMAC) had three players scored in double figures, led by Mariah Martin and Sarah McGinley with 17 points. Martin led the team with five assists and grabbed five rebounds. Abby Mangum was just one-point behind with 16 points. Hunter Krebs grabbed eight boards to lead the team in rebounding.
 
The Griffins shot 44.1% from the field, 30.8% from three and made 10-12 from the charity stripe. Regis shot 38.0% from the field, 30.8% from three and made 19 on 22 trips to the free throw line.
 
Martín scored 10 points to lead an offensive surge in the second quarter that put the Griffins ahead by seven, 42-35. Westminster stretched that lead to 15 halfway through the third quarter.
 
Regis (7-8, 7-7 RMAC) scored the final eight points of the third quarter and began the fourth quarter with a 12-4 run taking the lead for the first time since the second quarter.
 
The Griffins scored seven straight to regain the lead, 72-67, only to see the Rangers match the effort with a 7-0 run and the lead with 40 seconds left. McGinley tied the game, 74-74, to force overtime.
 
Regis took the lead to start the overtime period. Westminster came within one but was unable to overtake the Rangers.
 
The Griffins finish the regular season at home against Fort Lewis (Feb. 26) and Western Colorado (Feb. 27).
